All parents are advised to read the various guides published by Cambridgeshire County Council which provide parents with all the information they need to know about the admissions process and about Cambridgeshire maintained schools. The school’s Published Admissions’ Numbers (PAN) is 30. Where there are more applications for places than the number of places available, places will be offered according to the following order of priority.
- ‘Looked after’ children from Catholic families and all baptised Catholic children who are ‘looked after’.
- Baptised Catholic children with siblings in attendance at the time of admission.
- Baptised Catholic children of parents living in the parishes of Our Lady and the English Martyrs, Our Lady of Lourdes and St Philip Howard.
- Other Catholic children.
- Other ‘looked after’ children.
- Siblings of children in attendance at the time of admission not included under Criterion 2.
- Christians of other denominations and children of other faiths whose parents are in sympathy with the aims and ethos of the school and whose application is supported by a letter from a minister of religion.
- Any other applicants.
NOTE: If, because of pressure on places in any category, not all children in that category can be admitted, priority will be given to those living nearest to the school, the distance being measured in a straight line on a large-scale map.
Please note: All preferences are treated equally.
For children to whom any of the first four criteria apply, applications must be supported by a baptismal certificate. All applications must be supported by the following documents:
- Supplementary Information Form – The school has a Supplementary Information Form which parents will need to complete in order to make an application to this school.
- Birth certificate or passport
Any child who is refused a place at the school has a right of appeal to an independent appeals panel. The panel is made up of three people who are independent of the governing body and the local authority. They will take into consideration all the circumstances of the case put before them and any decision they make is binding on the governing body and the parents concerned.
Any parent wishing to appeal should put their case in writing to the Chair of Governors, who will ask for an independent panel to be convened.
The LA Admissions’ Team holds the reserve list until the end of the first week of the Autumn term, thereafter the Governing Body holds the list. A child’s name will remain on the list for the rest of the academic year after the application is submitted.
Children with Special Education Needs
Any child with a Statement of Special Education Need that names St. Alban’s as the appropriate school placement will be admitted to the school. This is a legal requirement. Applications from parents with children who have special educational needs, but who do not have a statement that names the school, will be considered along with all other applications, using the school’s admission criteria.
Notes (these notes form part of the criteria)
‘looked after child’ has the same meaning as in section 22 of the Children Act 1989, and means any child in the care of a local authority or provided with accommodation by them (e.g. children with foster parents).
‘Catholic’ means a member of a Church in communion with the See of Rome. This includes the Eastern Catholic Churches. This will normally be evidenced by a certificate of baptism in a Catholic Church or a certificate of reception into the full communion of the Catholic Church.
‘Sibling’ means a child living in the same home.
